Round #1: Retail
By Liza Lederer

One of the most challenging aspects of resisting oppressive regimes is working to ensure that your dollars aren’t fueling the powers you’re trying to resist.   In a capitalist country, where the dollar often speaks loudest, it’s imperative that we spend our money with businesses that do not support – or better yet actively work against – the powers seeking to strip us of our rights.

So this new series of posts looks to inform you of the businesses you might currently patronize whose top representatives are actively supporting the Trump administration, and to provide you alternative businesses with better track records.

Put your money where your mouth is and move your purchases to businesses that aren’t actively working to strip your rights away.

Exclusionary all the way to the bank.

NOT at L.L. Bean!

L.L. Bean heiress Linda Bean is one of 50 family members who own and run the outdoors supply store. Bean spent the 2016 election season fundraising and donating to Donald Trump’s political action committee. She is a member of the company’s board of directors, and has longtime ties to the Republican party. Bean personally donated $60,000 to the Making America Great Again LLC.

This donation flew largely under the radar until Trump himself tweeted a thank you to Bean for her support. While the LL Bean PR department rapidly got to work, insisting that the other family members had no such ties to Trump, and thus the company was not deserving of backlash for Linda Bean’s actions, she remains a vocal member of the board, and a staunch supporter of racist, misogynistic, bigoted candidates.

SHOP HERE: REI
REI has long held a sterling reputation as a fair employer, environmental advocate, and all-around excellent retailer of outdoor sporting supplies – And since the Trump inauguration, their progressive voice has only gotten louder. Shortly after Trumps signed his initial travel ban, CEO Jerry Stritzke sent a letter to his co-op employees:

“Over the course of the first week alone, we’ve witnessed actions that conflict with our co-op values on issues including climate, the environment, women’s rights and the singling out of individuals based on nationality and belief,” Stritzke writes. “These issues are core to the health of the outdoors and the ideals of our nation.” “We are an organization, and a country, built on inclusion,” he continues. “We believe we are better when we come together, when we are open and when we are welcoming. Accordingly, we do not support the executive order issued by the President on Friday regarding immigration. I have reached out personally to all employees currently in the immigration process to ensure they have the support they need.”

Stritzke’s words echo the history of actions of REI. The company leads volunteer programs around the world, helping to maintain parks and reduce the effects of climate change and human presence.   While we don’t know how he votes, Stritzke’s active stance against a hallmark of Trump’s platform is a great reason to move your business to REI, to support an ethical employer with progressive ideals.

Know Your Enemy- Terrence Murphy

By catherine,

This candidate wants to force his religion on you!

This man – Terrence Murphy – masquerades as an advocate of reason,
but, in reality, he is a danger to women everywhere.

He subscribes to the servitude of women
and opposes their independence, healthcare, education & the right to work.

If a woman is pregnant because of a rape,
Murphy would force her to carry it to term.

He opposes equal access to contraception and he opposes abortion under all conditions –
no exceptions for rape, incest or to save the life or health of the woman.

He also opposes providing NYS women with 21st century medical care & taking abortion out of NYS’ penal code.

He is running for election in New York State Senate’s 40th District.
Make sure he loses!

4 Critical State Races & 1 County One!

By catherine,

The NYS Senate can go Pro-Choice with Latimer & Boak!
Senator George Latimer (SD 37) is 100% pro-choice and an advocate for legislation that ensures access to vital services for women. He supports the Reproductive Health Act, and believes New York women deserve 21st century healthcare. In sharp contrast, his opponent does not. She refuses to support the Reproductive Health Act which would remove abortion from New York’s penal code, put it in the health code, and provide women with the healthcare we deserve. George Latimer has our overwhelming support!

Alison Boak (Ali) (SD 40) is a lifelong advocate for women and 100% pro-choice. She is an internationally recognized expert on human trafficking and advocate for adolescent health. She established an anti-trafficking model for the U.S. Department of Justice. In sharp contrast, her opponent is an extremist who has been endorsed by anti-choice right-wing groups because he opposes abortion even in cases of rape and incest. We need to elect Ali Boak to the Senate!

The NYS Assembly
Brian Higbie (AD 94) is pro-choice and running against an anti-choice conservative who refused to respond to our questionnaire. This opponent promises to follow in his anti-choice predecessor’s footsteps, which means working to defund Planned Parenthood! We’re excited to endorse Brian Higbie!

Sandra Galef (Sandy) (AD 95) is a strong advocate for comprehensive reproductive rights for women. She is an outspoken supporter of Planned Parenthood, equal pay, and paid family leave. Her opponent is not. He is anti-choice, refusing to even answer questions on his views about women’s healthcare. Re-elect Sandy Galef!

WESTCHESTER COUNTY
Anthony Scarpino (Tony) (District Attorney) has extensive legal experience. He worked as an FBI agent, served as a County Court Judge, and then as Surrogate Court Judge. Tony knows the importance of the law and that women have a constitutional right to safe access to reproductive healthcare including abortion. His opponent is anti-choice and refuses to respond to questions about his understanding of laws governing women’s health. Westchester needs a DA who will defend women’s rights. Elect Tony Scarpino.

BREAKING – WCLA PAC ENDORSES ALISON BOAK FOR SENATE

By catherine,

There is a Democratic Primary in New York State Senate District #40. The winner of the Primary will take on the right-wing anti-choice incumbent.

THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY is on TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH.
NEW YORK STATE SENATE DISTRICT #40 includes the City of Peekskill, the Towns of Cortlandt, Lewisboro, Mount Pleasant, New Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge, Somers & Yorktown, the Town/Village of Mount Kisco, & the Villages of Briarcliff Manor, Buchanan, Croton-on-Hudson, Pleasantville & Sleepy Hollow. Plus, it includes the Towns of Beekman & Pawling, & the Village of Pawling in Dutchess County; and the Towns of Carmel, Patterson & Southeast, & the Village of Brewster in Putnam County. Westchester County makes up approximately 80% of the voters in this district.

WCLA PAC is proud to endorse Alison Boak!

The election of Ali Boak to the NYS Senate can make the difference for the women of NY State, between 1970’s medical care & 21st Century reproductive healthcare.
Abortion is still in New York State’s Penal Code. Ali will help change that & put it where it belongs – in the Health Code.

Ali Boak is 100% pro-choice and has the record to prove it. As a lifelong advocate for women and children, Ali has the professional experience we need in Albany to get New York women the 21st Century reproductive healthcare we need.

SPECIAL ELECTION – THIS TUESDAY, AUGUST 9TH – VOTE!

By catherine,

The Special Election is THIS TUESDAY, August 9th, to elect the Westchester County Board of Legislator for the 14th District, representing South East Yonkers and Mount Vernon.

This election can help turn the Westchester legislature back into a pro-woman, pro-family, pro-safe-access-to-women’s-healthcare county government.

Come Out & Vote for Pro-Choice Christine Peters.

WHY HOLD AN ELECTION IN THE SUMMER?
This is a power play and they are using voter suppression tactics to do it.
Westchester County Board Chairman Kaplowitz and anti-choice legislators Maisano, Marcotte, Gelfarb, Testa, Corcoran, Cunzio, Burrows and Perez – with the support of extremist County Executive Astorino – voted to schedule the Special Election on August 9th instead of on Primary Day, Tuesday, September 13th – even though it will cost Westchester taxpayers $100,000 in additional tax dollars.
Why? Because they hope you won’t vote. Primary Day would have produced a bigger voter turnout because of elections being held in Mount Vernon – and those legislators don’t like that. They want their handpicked anti-choice Party boy, who will vote in lockstep with them, to represent the 14th district.

Their motivation for holding this Special Election in the middle of the summer is to suppress voter turnout. THIS IS VOTER SUPPRESSION RIGHT HERE IN WESTCHESTER — AND THEY ARE USING OUR TAX DOLLARS TO DO IT!

Show those anti-choice anti-woman extremists that you won’t be manipulated. It is your constitutional right to vote & you won’t let them take it from you.

A Fantastic Win with Todd Kaminsky!

By catherine,

PictureToddKaminskywin

WCLA PAC committed to electing Pro-Choice Todd Kaminsky
& it paid off BIG!

WCLA PAC is taking back the New York State Senate from anti-choice officials of all parties – One Seat at a Time – and we started with NYS Senate District #9 in Nassau County.

In a very tight race, decided by just 780 votes, our pro-choice voters made the difference. They rejected Todd’s anti-choice opponent and, instead, elected pro-choice Todd Kaminsky.

We are working hard, identifying one pro-choice voter at a time, so that we can activate them to vote.

This battle is far from over. We need to turn 5 more Senate seats, and keep Todd’s Senate seat again in November.

Taking Back the NYS Senate – Special Election April 19th!

By catherine,

It is Time to Elect Integrity – It is time for pro-choice Todd Kaminsky

WCLA PAC is taking back the New York State Senate from anti-choice, corrupt officials of all parties – One Seat at a Time – and we are starting with NYS Senate District #9 in Nassau County.

We are working hard, identifying one pro-choice voter at a time, so that we can activate them to vote.

Todd’s opponent is a truly frightening. Right-wing Republican Christopher McGrath stands for nothing other than his party affiliation. He refuses to answer questionnaires – and truthfully why should he? He does not have a position on anything because he will do as he is told by his party bosses.

Make no mistake, Todd’s opponent will stand with Ted Cruz or Donald Trump, whoever is nominated. He will not stand with the people of New York, but instead will follow those who are vehemently anti-choice and anti-women.

This is our greatest opportunity to show that we stand for Choice. Choice means women’s comprehensive reproductive rights and women’s comprehensive healthcare choices.

Remember, we’ve finally gotten rid of major corruption in the form of anti-choice Republican extremist Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, who was convicted, along with his son, on federal corruption charges.

Let’s change the tide and elect Integrity – pro-choice Todd Kaminsky!

Our Country and our State are at a crossroads. We can support the Constitution and people’s right to choose which includes religion, political affiliation and control of our own bodies – or we can choose to go the other way with the likes of Ted Cruz.
