It’s our yellow ProChoice Voting Guide and it makes the difference in who wins or loses in close elections.
This year’s local elections are really important. They will decide who’s going to serve as judge and who’ll be your county legislator. Will we have a board that can override the County Executive’s destructive, anti-women’s reproductive health agenda, and pass the Clinic Access Bill and protect our community health centers?
Over 90,000 individuals in Westchester Country use our Voting Guide annually to help them vote for pro-choice candidates. It costs over $30,000 to send out our guide via mail.
We usually hold an event to pay for the cost of the voting guide. We rent a space, get an entertainer, hire a caterer and send invitations. It costs money to raise money – and that’s wasteful.
This year, we’re trying something new. We’re having a virtual fundraiser.

Dear Mothers, Daughters, Sisters and Friends,
If you are a woman in your later 30’s or 40’s, beware – the 20-week abortion ban is aimed at you.
Even though it was beaten back in the Senate on Tuesday, the 20-week abortion ban will be back. It has been passed in the House and it is already the law in 13 states. Anti-choice extremists in Congress want to make it the law of the land.**

These zealots are targeting your right to decide whether or not to have a healthy child. They want to force you to give birth to a child that is suffering from chromosome abnormalities and/or genetic disorders – whether you want to or not. Those of us who get pregnant in our late 30’s and in our 40’s are at a greater risk of giving birth to a child with a birth defect, because of our age. We know this. I knew this so I had three Amniocenteses*, one in each of my pregnancies. An Amnio is performed at 17-19 weeks, and it takes another 2-3 weeks to get the results. That will take you to 19 to 22 weeks. You will be out of time to get an abortion if anti-choice extremists in Congress and in states across the country have their way. That means all of us older women, who want to have children, will no longer be able to have accurate testing for chromosome abnormalities, genetic disorders, and neural tube defects, and do something with the results. The possible loss of this right is very real. Please, you need to: 2. Many people say, “By 20 weeks you should know if you want to be pregnant…” Take the time and explain to them what is really at stake in a 20-week abortion ban. 3. Vote every chance you get. This year Election Day will be November 3, 2015. When you vote, you decide who will fight for or against you. This year’s election will decide whether we succeed in electing a pro-choice majority so that we can override a veto of the Clinic Access Bill. In 2012, we did not have one, and anti-choice extremist Astorino vetoed the bill forcing women to risk their safety when accessing health centers in Westchester. It is up to you whether we win this time! 4. Contribute to WCLA PAC. Help us help and protect Westchester’s women. Onward, *The Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) is the other test that can be performed. It can be done at 10-13 weeks but it is not as safe, having a higher rate of miscarriages, does not detect neural tube defects (birth defects of the brain, spine, or spinal cord), and is not as accurate as an Amniocentesis. |

(REMEMBER: It always comes down to voting and who you elect.)
To anti-choice extremists, Planned Parenthood is the symbol of women’s reproductive freedom, which to them is unbearable.
In July, anti-choice zealots launched their war on women with a guerrilla-style attack on Planned Parenthood. Seemingly out of nowhere they hurled heavily edited videos at the media, that supposedly showed Planned Parenthood officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue for a profit. When the whole video was examined, however, the truth came out. It became clear that the real conversation being had was actually a discussion of legal forms of fetal tissue donation.
Unfortunately, it did not matter that the producers of the altered videos all had suspicious credentials and belonged to the anti-abortion group The Center for Medical Progress (CMP)—led by 26-year-old activist David Daleiden who has a murky past at best. The feeding frenzy had begun.
“Roll Call found that some House Republicans had seen the videos weeks before they were released to the public without making any public comment, suggesting some degree of private coordination between the CMP and the GOP.” The Daily Beast
Despite the stench of fraud surrounding these altered videos, the federal government and some states began probes into Planned Parenthood.
In August, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, and South Dakota completed their probes and cleared Planned Parenthood of any alleged wrongdoing; and governors in Washington, New York, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Idaho, and Virginia have rejected calls for probes in their own states.
In addition, the attempt to get the Federal Government to defund Planned Parenthood failed-but only by seven votes in the Senate. That’s why they think they can make it happen this time around.
Anti-Choice Extremists have been Very Successful this Summer:
► Five (5) states – Alabama, Utah, Arkansas, Louisiana, and New Hampshire – have all defunded Planned Parenthood and other states are working toward the same end.
► There has been a dramatic increase in violence, including arson, against Planned Parenthood clinics around the country as a result of the hateful and false rhetoric spread by anti-choice legislators and activists.
►These anti-choice activists gained traction with candidates in search of an electoral base. They demand that their candidates staunchly oppose women and our right to comprehensive reproductive health care including abortion and contraception
Republican presidential candidates have weighed in:
● All of the candidates are on the record as opposing abortion, and want to ban it.
► These extremists have also aided in the rise of severe abortion restrictions including Ohio’s new one, HB 131, which will make it a felony to perform an abortion based on a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome. As a candidate competing for the GOP presidential nomination, Gov. John Kasich will sign it into law. This law holds the doctor liable!
